Slightly more than half of the drug addicts in Egypt–52 percent–live with their families, said Family and Population Minister Moushira Khattab, citing reports from the ministry's telephone hotline.
“This shows the absence of the family's role in the early detection of the problem,” she said.
The minister went on to urge members of the public to use the hotline–which can be reached at 16023–to report cases of drug addiction so that the ministry could provide "the necessary help."
“The hotline works 24 hours, all week long, and our service responses have been expanded geographically,” Khattab noted. “And we assure people that they can call us in confidence.”
