Sporting a safe tan adds a glow to your look and lessens time and effort spent on makeup. As a makeup artist, I’ve never been one to recommend makeup on the beach, but summer on the Egyptian north coast is about more than just sunbathing. The evening party scene can be pretty serious (style-wise), so whether you’re out at the north coast’s Tamarai club or Sky Bar, here are some simple maquillage tips to follow:
1. Make sure to moisturize your face every time you feel it is dry; a cream with vitamin B and E is highly recommended.
2. Before makeup, apply a thin layer of moisturizer to act as a base and protect your face from dryness.
3. Skip foundation, unless your tan is splotchy and you need to even it up. Use a darker tone than your usual color; I recommend anything by Lancaster.
4. Foundation powder is a no-no.
5. Follow your natural eyebrow line with light or dark brown eyebrow powder.
6. Mascara is the next step. Redo your lashes two or three times with one minute intervals between each application to allow the mascara to dry
7. Eyeliner is a must to define your eyes. Use a brown pencil (dark or light depending on your complexion).
8. Blusher is another step you can skip, but if necessary add a thin layer of loose bronzer. Avoid shimmery formulations as you don’t want to glow in the dark or turn orange.
9. Use a light tone of lip-gloss. Oranges and pinks are always summery and fun. Avoid matte lipstick.
10. To achieve fuller lips, define your lips with a skin-tone lip liner, apply transparent lip gloss and smudge both together. That will give you a natural and sexier look.
