Abdel Moez Ibrahim, head of the High Judicial Elections Commission (HJEC), will hold a press conference on Saturday afternoon to announce the official results of the second phase of parliamentary elections.
The second round of the polls was conducted in Monufiya, Aswan, Sharqiya, Giza, Beheira, Ismailia, Beni Suef, Sohag and Suez on14 and 15 December. Run-off elections were held on 21 and 22 December.
In the second phase, 120 candidates were elected through the list-based system while 60 independent candidates were selected through the single-winner system.
The Freedom and Justice Party, the political wing of the Muslim Brotherhood, says it has won 37.2 percent of the vote in the second stage, not counting the run-off results. The HJEC says voter turnout in the participating governorates was around 67 percent in the latest round of voting.
