SCAF appoints three university presidents

The Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) has issued a decree to appoint three university presidents and a research center head, Minister of Higher Education Moataz Khorshid, said on Thursday. On Wednesday, Ain Shams University closed the window for accepting presidential nominations.

Mostafa Kamal was appointed as president to Assuit University, Mohamed al-Nashar to Helwan University, Mohamed Moamedin to Suez Canal University and Ibrahim Salama as chairman of the Mubarak City for Research, after they won in elections, Khorshid told al-Masry al-Youm.

SCAF appointed the candidates that received the most votes, while the law permits it to choose among three figures recommended by the minister of higher education.

The Ministry of Higher Education is waiting for SCAF to appoint presidents to Alexandria, Fayoum, Zagazig, and Sohag universities and Sadat Academy after the ministry sent it a list of candidates.

Aliaa Kotby, a member of the trilateral commission supervising Ain Shams University presidential elections, said there are 18 candidates for the office. The list of candidates did not contain Ahmed Zaki Badr and Majid al-Deeb, former presidents of the university.
