Egypt's wheat production from the fiscal year 2009 to 2010 declined by 15.8 percent from the year before to reach 7.17 million tons, a government report on Wednesday indicated.
According to the plant production report for the fiscal year 2009-2010, issued on Wednesday by the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics, price drops and low productivity due to global warming caused the decline.
The report also said that Egypt's rice production declined to reach 4.33 million tons as compared to 5.52 million tons the year before.
That decline came as a result of a Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation decision last year to reduce land allocated to rice cultivation, the report said.
