The Interior Ministry confirmed Tuesday the security of all ballot boxes containing votes cast Monday.
Judges supervising elections had sealed off the boxes and put their signatures on them after polls closed last night. They also closed doors and windows of polling stations.
Observers had expressed fear that the boxes would be manipulated once supervising judges left.
According to an Interior Ministry statement issued on Tuesday, voting was delayed in 15 polling stations in Cairo because judges arrived late. Polling should have officially begun at 8 am.
The Interior Ministry was notified by the National Security Agency that voting at all polling stations was going well and that voting had begun in five governorates. However, there was a delay at eight polling stations in Fayoum.
The statement added that no security personnel were inside the polling stations, indicating that their role is only to protect the polling stations without intervening in the process itself.
