EgyptAir resumes flights to Tripoli

EgyptAir resumed flights to Libyan capital Tripoli Thursday, following a seven-month halt due to a NATO-imposed no-fly zone during the Libya's uprising.

The first flight took off after an EgyptAIr technical team inspected the Tripoli airport to ensure its security.

Seventy-seven passengers were on board the first flight, number 829. EgyptAir will operate 11 flights per week to Libya, including four to Benghazi on Saturday, Monday, Tuesday and Thursday that began operating in September.

Libyan authorities have allowed those who hold visas obtained under late leader Muammar Qadhafi's rule to continue to travel to Libya, said sources at the Tripoli airport.
