The Muslim Brotherhood’s internet websites were exposed to attacks by hackers located in Germany, the US, France, Slovakia and Egypt which began on 6 pm Friday, the group said on Saturday.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the Brotherhood’s technical team said the attacks failed, even though the unnamed attackers continued their attempts for several hours.
Egypt’s internet users on Saturday morning managed to visit the Brotherhood’s official website, the statement said, adding that all the Brotherhood’s websites are now working effectively.
The statement said the attacks have begun to abate with the exception of those coming from France.
The organization, named "Anonymous," announced in a video posted on YouTube several days ago that it would not allow the Brotherhood “to change the path of the revolution.”
It added that the Brotherhood constitutes “a threat to Egyptians.”
Meanwhile, on its website, the Brotherhood said the organization “lacks basic ethics and doesn’t know the most basic of human principles.”
The organization is a group of unidentified individuals who have been connected with internet piracy since 2008. They carried out internet attacks that were concomitant with protests in Iran in 2009, after Iran's opposition accused President Ahmadinejad of rigging the election.
Several websites belonging Israeli ministries, including the Defense Ministry, the Mossad and the Shin Bet were down for several hours on Sunday after the organization threatened, also in a video on YouTube, to launch retaliations against the Israeli government “after Canadian and Irish ships were intercepted by Israeli ships.”
The Brotherhood’s party Freedom and Justice is contesting 40 percent of the seats of parliament in forthcoming elections slated for 28 November.
The Brotherhood usually uses its websites to announce the results of vote tallies and other election news.
