Egyptian border police rescued Sunday 91 Egyptians from drowning during an attempt to illegally immigrate to Europe on a sailboat.
Border police were able to locate the sinking boat near the coast of Salloum, said a security source who spoke on condition of anonymity.
A team affiliated with the border's investigation services worked with the Navy to rescue the migrants.
Police arrested crew members Mohamed al-Zentawy, 34, and Mansour al-Barbary, 38, while four others, including the captain, escaped.
Salloum military prosecution questioned the suspects arrested. Investigations revealed they were from the governorates of Cairo, Alexandria, Monufiya, Sharqiya, Damietta and Fayoum, and that they wanted to travel to Italy to look for jobs.
Authorities are searching for the boat captain and the middleman who allegedly helped them attempt to illegally migrate.
