The presidential studio in Borg al-Arab in Alexandria was dismantled on Wednesday, Al-Masry Al-Youm has learned.
Sources speaking on condition of anonymity said this is the third studio to have been dismantled after the 25 January revolution. One at the dissolved National Democratic Party headquarters in Heliopolis and one in Sharm el-Sheikh were dismantled in March and April respectively.
The sources added that the studios were dismantled in complete secrecy and upon oral instructions from officials from the Egyptian Radio and Television Union and the Ministry of Information. The equipment has been moved to storage spaces belonging to Egyptian state TV.
The studios were equipped with state-of-the-art equipment, according to the sources.
The only such studio remaining is the one at the presidential palace in Heliopolis, from which Hosni Mubarak gave his last statements before stepping down from the presidency.
Minister of Information Osama Heikal told Al-Masry Al-Youm that while there are insufficient budget allocations to purchase new equipment, the cameras and equipment removed from the Borg al-Arab studio were brand new.
