The Alliance of Revolutionary Forces on Tuesday called for daily marches until the middle of Ramadan to demand the release of protesters detained in Cairo's Tahrir Square on Monday.
Police and military forces on Monday forcibly dispersed a sit-in that has been staged at the square since 8 July by activists and families of the victims of the revolution.
Protesters' rights groups said military police detained 66 protesters.
In a statement, the alliance said the daily marches will begin at 10 pm, starting at Abdeen Square and passing through other areas downtown before ending at Tahrir Square.
Protesters returned at midnight on Monday in defiance of the police and military's attempt to clear the square. Nearly 2000 activists rallied at the square and were joined by other marches coming from the nearby Talaat Harb Square and the Journalists Syndicate.
As army forces intensified their presence at the square’s entrances, protesters announced their intention to remain in the area, chanting slogans against the ruling Supreme Council of the Armed Forces and the Interior Ministry.
