PM adviser: Egyptians want military out of power after transitional period

The armed forces is ruling the country on behalf of the revolution, said al-Moataz Bellah Abdel Fattah, political adviser to the prime minister, during an interview on Dream TV on Tuesday.

He emphasized that the people do not want the ruling Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) to stay in power longer than the six months originally agreed upon and specified in the constitutional declaration.

Sovereignty belongs to the people, who are the source of all powers, he added, saying that political controversy is normal.

During the interview, Abdel Fattah also said several of Egypt's problems will be solved now that the State Security Investigative Services has been dissolved.

There is still a confidence gap between the people and the government, he added.

He also said he was happy about the 8 July mass protests because they demonstrate that the revolutionaries have not lost their spirit and that the revolution has not ended.

Following a cabinet shakeup last week that ushered out more than half the government ministers, he said the government had been working on the reshuffle a month and a half before the 8 July protests, which called for the removal of the cabinet.

"The 8 July million-man protest solved the problem," Abdel Fattah said, perhaps in reference to rumored SCAF resistance to removing certain ministers.

Abdel Fattah also said the trial of ex-president Hosni Mubarak is in the hands of the judiciary and Mubarak will not receive any preferential treatment.
