NAC calls for million-strong iftar in Tahrir Square

The National Association for Change (NAC) has called for a million-strong iftar (breakfast) in Tahrir Square on 5 August, the first Friday of Ramadan.

According to the NAC, the goal behind the event is to achieve cohesion between the people and the protesters within a framework of brotherhood, love and serenity, which will benefit the country and help support the revolution.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the NAC said that the call is not limited to Cairo, and that it will include Alexandria, Suez and any other governorates that would like to organize similar events simultaneously. The goal of the mass breakfast will be to celebrate the revolution’s success and mobilize the greatest number of people possible, so that it is recognized as the largest iftar in history.

The statement also called for the unification of Tarawih prayers on the same day in all of the main squares around Egypt.

The NAC has been one of Egypt’s most active political movements since emerging on the scene in late 2010, taking on a prominent organizational role during the 25 January revolution.
