A tractor-trailer collided with a microbus in Aswan Governorate Wednesday, killing 12 people and injuring seven.
A security source said preliminary investigations revealed the tractor-trailer was traveling at high speeds on the Aswan-Abu Simbel Road, about 850km south of Cairo.
The injured were transferred to a hospital for treatment. Police filed a report and notified prosecutors to begin investigations.
Road collisions are the second highest cause of death in Egypt. A government report released last month said that an average of 18 people were killed daily in crashes in 2009.
