Syrian ambassador rebuffs Moussa’s remarks on turmoil

Syria's ambassador to Cairo and the Arab League on Tuesday denounced statements made by Egyptian presidential hopeful Amr Moussa on the situation in Syria, which Moussa had described as dangerous.

In a press statement, Ambassador Youssef Ahmed said Moussa’s comments were imbalanced and represented flagrant ignorance of foreign plots targeting the country and its independence.

Ahmed warned against “using Syrians’ blood" as a tool for serving private goals or retaliating to Western efforts to enact a UN Security Council resolution against Syria.

On Monday, Moussa described the situation in Syria as dangerous and worrying, voicing concern about the rising number of casualties and refugees.

There are ongoing consultations among Arab countries to follow the unrest in Syria, Moussa had said.

On Tuesday, the Egyptian newspaper Al-Ahram's website quoted Moussa as blaming the developments in Syria on Arab states, saying that Arab League resolutions are the responsibility of member states and not the secretary general.

Moussa’s remarks follow criticism of the Arab League’s position on developments in Syria, especially in light of the rising civilian death toll during the 3-month-old protests against Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
