Egyptian naval forces on Tuesday rescued 87 Egyptians on a boat transporting illegal emigrants to Italy.
Naval forces received distress signals from the boat while it was sinking about 12 miles from Alexandria, the Egyptian news agency MENA reported.
A communications company helped authorities track the source of the signals, sent out by a cell phone of a passenger on the boat.
Naval forces and other rescue teams located the boat, which was carrying 80 emigrants and seven crew members.
The rescued passengers were given first aid at a field hospital in Alexandria.
