An Egyptian officer was severely injured Monday while chasing two runaway prisoners in Kafr al-Sheikh Governorate, a security source said.
First Lieutenant Mohamed Darwish was injured after security forces had gone on a patrol to find the escaped prisoners, the source said. Once they noticed the police, the prisoners began shooting.
One prisoner, 27-year-old Hamada Abdel Khaleq, is convicted in seven cases. The other, 32-year-old Ahmed Ibrahim, is convicted in four. Both escaped from the Liman Tora prison.
The source added that the prisoners were intimidating people in Riyad village in Kafr al-Sheikh.
