Former information minister detained for another 15 days

Assistant Justice Minister Assem al-Gohari has remanded former Information Minister Anas al-Fiqqi into custody for another 15 days pending investigation in charges of illicit gains.

Illicit Gains Authority prosecutors presented Fiqqi with information arising from their investigations so far, including his ownership of two media companies and real estate valued at over LE100 million.

The former information minister had earlier admitted that he had US$2 million in a Swiss bank account.

Fiqqi is also charged with allowing businessman Talaat Mustafa to continue advertising his urban development project "Madinaty" on state television, despite a decision to stop the campaign as Mustafa had not paid his bills.
