Egyptian authorities on Thursday discovered three new tunnels while patrolling the border between Egypt and Gaza.
Security sources said the tunnels were discovered in the Barahma area and that they are used for smuggling goods from Egypt to Gaza.
One of the tunnels, according to the sources, was allocated for smuggling butane gas cylinders, which may explain the shortage of gas cylinders in North Sinai, as they were smuggled to Gaza at double the price.
The source said that intensive patrols would be conducted near the border, and that security forces were not able to make any arrests, as all the smugglers had run away before the patrol arrived. Egyptian security forces destroyed the tunnels following their discovery.
