Egyptian activists are planning to stage anti-torture protests next week in commemoration of Khaled Saeed, who was allegedly tortured to death by policemen last year.
Saeed’s death helped spark the Egyptian revolution, which led to the ouster of former President Hosni Mubarak on 11 February.
In a statement issued on Thursday, activists said they would protest on Monday, 6 June, the anniversary of Saeed's death, in front of Cairo and Alexandria police stations.
Activists said the protests would denounce police torture.
Saeed died after being beaten to death by police officers in Alexandria for allegedly posting videos on the internet accusing police officers of involvement in corruption and torture.
Although a year has passed, no convictions have been made in Saeed's death.
