Prime Minister Essam Sharaf is visiting Uganda on Wednesday, from where he would head for Ethiopia, on his first visit to African countries.
A Foreign Ministry statement said Egypt aims to turn a new page with Africa, especially the Nile Basin countries.
“We want to help achieve development in those countries,” said Assistant Foreign Minister for African Affairs Mona Omar. “And we want to build relations that are based on mutual understanding and trust.”
Sharaf will participate in the inauguration of Uganda’s president Yuri Museveni.
Omar said that Egypt, Sudan and Ethiopia agreed for a joint team to assess whether the new Millennium Dam in Ethiopia would adversely affect the Nile water quotas of Egypt and Sudan.
