Ayman Nour’s retrial verdict due on 25 May

The Court of Cassation will convene on 25 May to issue its verdict on the petition submitted to it by Ayman Nour, founder of the Ghad Party, for his retrial.

Nour was sentenced in 2005 to five years in prison, of which he served three, for forging membership applications for his party in order to reach the minimum number required for its formation.

In his petition, Nour said the witness to the case, Ismail Zakaria, later changed his testimony and confessed that the dissolved State Security Bureau had ordered him to forge the applications.

In a press conference on Wednesday, Zakaria said the bureau threatened to put him in jail for the rest of his life if he did not carry out the order.
