Ambassador expects rise in Swedish tourists by September

Swedish Ambassador to Egypt Malin Kärre said she expects the number of Swedish tourists visiting Egypt to rise by September, after decreasing in the aftermath of the 25 January revolution.

At the opening of Tuesday's trading session at the Egyptian stock exchange, Kärre said that around 200,000 Swedes visit Egypt annually.

Kärre highlighted the strong commercial relations between Egypt and Sweden in several fields. She said she believes that Swedish companies will resume investing in the country, citing the Swiss-Swedish engineering group ABB and the interiors company IKEA as examples of companies operating in Egypt.

She also cited Ericsson, a telecommunications provider that has been present in the Egyptian market since 1979, and Tetra Pak, a multinational food processing and packaging company.

She said Sweden views investment in Egypt positively, adding that the volume of trade between the two countries amounts to €700 million a year.
