Gaza crossings closed for holidays in Egypt and Israel

Egyptian authorities closed the Rafah border crossing on Monday. Meanwhile, Israeli authorities shut down the Karam abu Salem exit, the only commercial crossing with the Gaza Strip, for the holidays.

The Palestinian border authority said Egyptian authorities closed the border completely today, and will re-open them on Tuesday.

In a statement, the authority mentioned that the Rafah crossing was closed for Sinai Liberation Day and Easter in Egypt.

Egyptian authorities open the Rafah border crossing — the only entrance to Gaza — five days a week, since the decision to open the border indefinitely was taken in June 2010 when Israel attacked the Freedom aid flotilla on its way to Palestine.

Israeli authorities closed the Karam abu Salem exit for the Jewish holidays. They will re-open tomorrow.
