Prosecutors on Sunday questioned Alaa and Gamal Mubarak, sons of ousted President Hosni Mubarak, inside the Tora prison, where they are detained, instead of summoning them to the prosecution headquarters.
The attorney general said this measure was decided on after the interior minister reported that it would not be safe to move them outside prison.
Prosecution spokesman Adel al-Saeed said the questioning included accusations that Mubarak’s sons forced certain agents of foreign companies operating in Egypt to take them as partners in their companies.
They were also questioned about their relationships with a company in Cyprus and another in the United Kingdom, working on the management of investment funds.
The defendants are also charged with having been involved in the privatization of public sector companies and in evaluating and selling the assets of those companies.
The prosecution said in a statement that it is keen to inform the public of all the facts that take place, while at the same time to preserve the confidentiality of investigations and of evidence collection.
The statement said that the public prosecution is the only competent authority to investigate this issue, and that no information is credible other than that announced by its official spokesman.
