At a rally in Alexandria to declare the Free Egyptians Party's principles, billionaire party co-founder Naguib Sawiris said he would not run for president of the country or the party.
Sawiris also said that he advocates for Constitutional Article 2, which says Islamic Law is the main source of legislation, provided it is amended to treat non-Muslims in accordance with their own laws.
He added that the party aims to preserve the secular nature of the state and equality among citizens regardless of their religion or sex.
Sawiris has been leading a substantial media campaign to attract members to his newly founded party.
