Former President Hosni Mubarak has received a subpoena summoning him and his sons for investigations, Interior Minister Mansour al-Essawy said on Monday.
The announcement came during an interview with Al-Arabiya news network. The channel broadcasted only a part of the interview Monday and will air it in full on Tuesday.
Al-Essawy said the attorney general's decision was not to arrest the former president, but only to inform him and his two sons that they have been summoned to testify in court.
He added that the Ministry of Interior will provide security at the places to which Mubarak and his sons will go.
Asked if the ex-president has accepted to appear in court, al-Essawy said, "I do not know. He was only told of the decision and he received the order."
The Mubaraks are accused of killing and injuring protesters during the 25 January revolution, according to petitions filed with the attorney general. Other accusations relate to stealing public funds and abusing official power to gain commissions and personal benefits.
