The monthly report of the Cabinet Information and Decision Support Center said demand for Egyptian labor abroad dropped by 18.9 percent from January to February, while local demand dropped by 43 percent during the same period.
The report also said job opportunities provided by the Local Development Fund dropped by 1.8 percent in February, with 716 job opportunities compared to 729 opportunities in January.
Employment in the private sector also dropped by 59.3 percent, according to the report, with 2510 appointments in February compared to 6017 in January.
“There is a tendency to recruit locals in most countries,” said Alia el-Mahdy, professor of economics. “Add to this the global financial crisis which is causing the loss of jobs”
El-Mahdy doubted the cited figures, saying,” Not all workers abroad are registered at the Ministry of Manpower.,”
