A delegation from the Palestinian political party Fatah today briefed Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa on an initiative by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to reconcile with Hamas, the part that controls the Gaza Strip.
The head of the delegation, who is also the head of its parliamentary bloc, Azzam al-Ahmed, said Abbas expressed willingness to visit Gaza to meet Hamas leaders and agree on the formation of a government composed of competent, independent patriotic figures.
In a press statement, al-Ahmed said the government will prepare for presidential and legislative elections, as well as Palestinian National Council elections, and begin the reconstruction of Gaza.
Al-Ahmed added that Moussa promised to contact Hamas and other Palestinian factions to urge them to accept the initiative and end the country's divide.
