1230 Egyptians arrive from Libya on a Turkish ship

A Turkish ship named “Samson” arrived at the port of Alexandria on Saturday with 1230 Egyptians on board from Libya's capital, Tripoli.

Seaport authorities, in collaboration with other agencies, facilitated procedures for the Egyptian returnees and exempted them from any fees. Buses were also provided to take them to their home governorates.

Egyptian authorities already successfully evacuated around 200,000 Egyptians from Libya since the start of the uprising that erupted against Muammar Qadhafi's regime on 17 February. Many countries, includinf France, Britain, Turkey and the US, helped transfer Egyptians who had fled to Tunisia as the turmoil intensified.

Egypt, which had the largest expatriate community in Libya — an estimated 1.5 million people — is seeking compensation for its citizens who have been forced to flee.
