Heavy security in Daqahlia for Gamal Mubarak’s visit

Daqahlia–Gamal Mubarak, son of President Hosni Mubarak and head of the ruling National Democratic Party’s Policies Secretariat, will resume his visits on Thursday to Egypt’s poorest villages, after a long break while his father was ill.

The president’s son will visit the village of Damas in Daqahlia, where police took heavy security measures to protect him.

The roads that Mubarak’s motorcade will use have all been paved and trees planted alongside them. Residents were told to stay inside their homes and not to open their windows.

During his six-hour visit, Mubarak will inspect a hospital and a school, then hold a popular rally in the village. He will also visit the home of Rogina el-Semary, a woman working at a state-funded project for hand-made carpets.

“I’ve been working in this project for seven years,” said Rogina. “They trained me and now they buy the carpets I make, which provides me with a good income.”
