The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) has confirmed that its disciplinary hearing in Zurich, scheduled for last Thursday 15 April, has been postponed until sometime in May.
The EFA was due to appear before a FIFA disciplinary hearing to face charges over the attack on an Algerian team bus before a World Cup qualifier in Cairo last November .
FIFA said on Wednesday that the EFA will face charges over the incidents leading up to the match with Algeria.
Medhat Shalaby, head of Public Relations at the EFA, denied that a disciplinary hearing was directed solely at Egypt, saying that “Egypt had sent its complaints, Algeria had sent its complaints, and we have yet to see what the outcome will be.”
Shalaby added that if FIFA’s decision only penalized Egypt, it would request an appeal and demand a fairer verdict.
For Egyptian football fans, however, the matter appears to have lost its air of controversy. A group of youth outside Al-Ahly Sporting Club showed little concern towards any decision to come out of the disciplinary hearing, with one saying “this stuff is old news. ”
