Hurghada — The owner of a hotel complex in the Red Sea resort city of Hurghada was recently arrested on charges of "damaging the marine environment" by constructing a 114-meter pier without obtaining a license.
According to a report released by the environment ministry, the hotel committed additional environmental violations along its 11,250-meter beach resulting in an estimated US$17,000 worth of damages.
The report has been submitted to both the environment minister and the governor of the Red Sea province, who are expected to order the removal of the pier and the restoration of the beach.
