Pharmacutical company staff protest for better conditions

About 1000 employees of Chemical Industries Development (CID) staged a protest on Sunday morning at the company's headquarters in Haram, south Cairo, demanding better pay.

The protesters attacked what they described as a squandering of company funds, and disproportionately large financial allocations for the board headed by Abdel Halim Mustafa. They also decried unfair bonuses.

Workers leveled severe criticism at their staff syndicate, where former minister of manpower and immigration Aisha Abdel Hadi, used to work. They said the syndicate ignores workers’ demands in return for benefits from the managerial board.

Egypt has experienced a wave of labor protests, effecting several sectors, since the end of the mass pro-democracy protests that brought down the regime of former president Hosni Mubarak after 30 years in power.
