National Association for Change renounces vice PM appointment

In rejection of Prime Minister Ahmed Shafiq's government, The National Association for Change (NAC) renounced the appointment of one of its own founders, Yehia al-Gamal, as vice prime minister.

“Although al-Gamal is prominent legal expert, his new post doesn’t express the NAC stance, which still calls for toppling Ahmed Shafiq’s government and forming another interim government of independents,” NAC said in a statement, adding that the recent reshuffle would not bring change.

The government still lacks legitimacy because it was appointed by the former president and includes National Democratic Party members, NAC said.

The decision to allow former President Hosni Mubarak's ministers of justice and foreign affairs to remain in office has provoked protesters.
