Egypt govt postpones second academic term one more week

The start of the second term at all Egyptian universities will be pushed back one more week, newly-appointed Education Minister Ahmed Gamal Eddin Moussa announced on Wednesday.

Moussa noted that private universities had the authority to determine their own start dates.

In a press statement, the minister also noted that Egyptian high schools would begin their activities next week, but that provincial governors had the authority to postpone the opening of high schools in their districts, according to conditions within their respective education directorates.

The government had previously postponed the start of the second academic term at all Egyptian universities and high schools–which had originally been scheduled to open their doors on 12 February–in light of the nationwide uprising that led to the 11 February toppling of former president Hosni Mubarak.
