Ousted Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak is in the Red Sea resort town of Sharm el-Sheikh in the south Sinai Peninsula, said head of Egypt’s interim government Ahmed Shafiq on Sunday.
In a statement to reporters, Shafiq said the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces of Egypt, which now governs the country, would determine former vice-president Omar Suleiman’s new position. Suleiman, said Shafiq, "may be appointed to an important position in the coming period."
Shafiq also announced that media personality Emad al-Din Adeeb was a leading candidate for the position of minister of information following the resignation of Anas al-Fiqi. Adeeb is a well-known Egyptian businessman and the eldest son of late writer and scriptwriter Abdel Hay Adib. He is also the brother of media personality Amr Adib.
Adib owns the “Good News" production house, one of Egypt's largest production companies. Adib is known for having interviewed the former president in 2005 in a seven-hour interview that was broadcast over a three-day period.
During the much criticized interview, Adib failed to discuss the country’s disasterous economic and social condition, lack of democracy, or Egypt's fraud-ridden political system, focusing instead on Mubarak’s personal life.
