“I respect all people’s demands,” Arab League Secretary-General Amr Moussa, told Al Jazeera on Saturday.
The people’s main demand during the last four days of protests has been to oust the current regime. After President Hosni Mubarak's public address to the nation–in which he pledged to sack the current cabinet–people continued protesting on Sunday, but modified their demand to “The people want the president to go.”
“Reforms have to take place immediately and they have to be sustained. The message of the people is clear,” said Moussa.
He told Al Jazeera he was aware of high-level conversations within the regime to discuss the next head of the cabinet and to decide on the coming steps for reforms.
“I am not closely involved in those conversations,” he said, adding that he does not have specific information.
Moussa acknowledged that the military deployment in the streets of the nation has been well-received, especially as protestors perceive this as protection from violence and looting.
