Iran considers withdrawing from Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty: Report

Iran is considering withdrawing from the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), according to a report by the Tasnim News Agency on Saturday.

The agency said that several relevant bodies in Iran, including the Islamic Consultative Assembly (Parliament), are urgently considering withdrawal from the NPT.

The report added that “a final conclusion is beginning to emerge in the country that there is no reason to remain in the NPT.”

“Under this treaty, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is obligated to provide safeguards and support to enable Iran to utilize peaceful nuclear technology and its associated requirement,” it explained.

Tasnim continued, “But when Rafael Grossi, the IAEA Director General, implicitly encourages the enemy to use nuclear weapons against Iranian facilities, and when the American-Israeli enemy attacks Iranian facilities without any prohibition or condemnation from the Agency, there is no longer any justification for remaining in the treaty.”

“Withdrawing from the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty does not mean moving towards acquiring nuclear weapons, but rather aims to prevent the continuation of American and Israeli espionage activities carried out under the guise of IAEA inspectors.”
