President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi received a phone call on Friday from Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian to discuss the rapidly deteriorating regional security situation.
According to the official spokesperson for the Egyptian Presidency, President el-Sisi expressed Egypt’s categorical condemnation and absolute rejection of Iranian military actions targeting the Gulf states, Jordan, and Iraq.
The President emphasized that these neighboring nations have neither supported nor participated in the ongoing hostilities against Iran. On the contrary, he noted that these states have been instrumental in de-escalation efforts and have consistently supported diplomatic negotiations between Tehran and Washington to reach a peaceful resolution.
President Sisi urged the prioritization of the “good neighborly” principle and called for an immediate cessation of these attacks. He voiced Egypt’s deep regret over the current escalation and expressed grave concern regarding its negative impact on regional stability and the future of its people. Furthermore, the President reviewed Egypt’s ongoing efforts to halt military operations and push for a return to the negotiating table, stressing the urgent need for all parties to demonstrate flexibility.
Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawy, the presidential spokesperson, noted that the Iranian President expressed his appreciation for Egypt’s role and President el-Sisi’s personal commitment to de-escalation. President Pezeshkian claimed his country had engaged in multiple rounds of negotiations regarding its nuclear program and affirmed Tehran’s desire to maintain fraternal relations and stability with Arab nations.
During the phone conversation, the two leaders explored potential avenues to end the conflict. President al-Sisi reaffirmed Egypt’s readiness to exert every possible effort in mediation to ensure that political and diplomatic solutions prevail. He concluded by stressing the necessity for all parties to adhere to international law and the United Nations Charter, specifically regarding the respect for state sovereignty, territorial integrity, and non-interference in the internal affairs of other nations.
