US hails Egypt’s “vital support” in repatriating US citizens amid regional crisis

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio held a high-level diplomatic call with Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty on Thursday to coordinate on regional security and the protection of American citizens.

According to a statement from the US Department of State, Secretary Rubio expressed his formal gratitude to Minister Abdelatty for Egypt’s instrumental role in facilitating the safe repatriation of US citizens. Egypt has served as a critical transit hub, ensuring that Americans caught in regional hostilities could return home safely via Egyptian territory.

The two top diplomats also conducted a comprehensive review of the “persistent threats” posed by the Iranian regime to regional stability. The discussion centered on neutralizing escalatory actions in the Middle East and addressing the broader geopolitical shifts following recent military engagements.

Land exit to Egypt

On Tuesday, the US Embassy in Jerusalem has issued an urgent security directive advising American citizens in Israel to utilize land routes into Egypt as commercial aviation options remain nearly non-existent.

US Ambassador Mike Huckabee confirmed that while Ben Gurion Airport’s reopening remains uncertain, the  Taba border crossing has emerged as the primary corridor for those seeking to leave the country.
