US Embassy in Cairo issues high-alert advisory for citizens amid Iran strikes

The US Embassy in Cairo issued an urgent security advisory on Saturday, warning American citizens in Egypt of the potential repercussions following large-scale military operations currently unfolding in Iran.

In a statement posted to its official Facebook page, the Embassy urged US nationals to exercise heightened caution and closely monitor regional security developments. Officials noted that the security environment across the Middle East is experiencing “high tension” and warned that conditions could shift rapidly.

Air travel and regional impact

Despite the closure of airspace in several neighboring countries, the Embassy confirmed that Egyptian airspace remained open as of 10:15 AM local time. However, officials cautioned that regional disruptions could still impact travel plans and advised passengers to maintain direct contact with airlines regarding potential flight changes.

Safety protocols for US citizens

The Embassy has mandated several precautionary measures for personnel and citizens currently in the country, including:

  • Maintaining a low profile in public spaces.

  • Exercising extreme caution at locations visibly associated with the United States.

  • Avoiding all demonstrations, large gatherings, and areas with heavy security presence.

Citizens are further encouraged to monitor local media, follow instructions from Egyptian authorities, and remain vigilant of their surroundings at all times.

Emergency Support and Registration

To ensure real-time communication during the crisis, the Embassy is calling on all Americans to enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP). The program allows the State Department to provide critical security updates and facilitates emergency assistance.

The American Citizen Services (ACS) unit in Cairo remains reachable through its official website and the State Department’s emergency hotlines for those requiring immediate consular support.
