PM: Return of state ministry of media reflects state’s keen interest in media

CAIRO, Feb 16 (MENA) – Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly said the return of the State Ministry of Media within the new government lineup reflects the great importance the State attaches to national media platforms and its belief in the ministry’s role in delivering an effective communication message that reaches all segments of Egyptian society.

During a meeting on Monday with Minister of State for Media Diaa Rashwan to review the ministry’s work plan for the upcoming phase, in line with directives from President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, Prime Minister Madbouly expressed confidence in the ministry’s role.

He further noted that the ministry would serve as a key link in strengthening communication with various media outlets and delivering content that reflects Egypt, its status, and its citizens.

He noted that the next phase requires clear mechanisms to handle tasks related to presidential directives, particularly giving top priority to public opinion by consistently presenting facts through a national media capable of reaching all components of society and delivering a professional and responsible message.

This, he added, would help shape public awareness regarding challenges and counter misinformation while promoting constructive dialogue, sound thinking, and respect for differing views.

Madbouly said these directives establish a work agenda for the ministry focused on creating a professional government communication system based on transparency, efficient performance, and effective handling of developments.

He added that the directives also aim to simplify media messages and professionally explain the scope of economic and social decisions with accuracy and objectivity.

He also stressed the importance of continuous coordination with relevant media bodies to ensure integration while preserving their constitutionally guaranteed independence.

He added that this approach helps restore the standing of Egyptian media and enables it to deliver clear, impactful messages that reflect societal values and traditions, while including all segments and upholding freedom of expression within the framework of the law.

For his part, Rashwan expressed appreciation to President Sisi for entrusting him with the portfolio and thanked the prime minister for his support.

He said a meeting would be held on Tuesday with heads of the Supreme Council for Media Regulation, the National Press Authority, and the National Media Authority to discuss means of joint cooperation and coordinate institutional performance within the framework of constitutional mandates.

He added that joint meetings would also be held with delegations from the Journalists Syndicate, headed by Khaled al-Balshy, and the Media Professionals Syndicate, headed by Tareq Saada, to discuss cooperation aimed at achieving a high level of professional performance in line with the Constitution and laws.

Rashwan affirmed commitment to responsible freedom and respect for freedom of opinion and expression, as well as cooperation among all stakeholders in the media sector to strengthen the role of various outlets.

He also underlined plans to engage with private and digital media professionals and follow up on foreign media coverage to ensure the Egyptian State’s perspective is present in discussions concerning it.

He stressed that efforts would focus on improving media performance, advancing digital media, and establishing strong mechanisms to confront rumors at an early stage.

The minister also highlighted plans to develop the performance of media offices in ministries, enhance coordination with official spokespersons and media advisers, and intensify training programs to improve effective communication with media outlets. (MENA)
