Russia launched attacks on Ukraine overnight into Tuesday, Ukrainian authorities said, hours before delegations from both countries were set to join the United States in trilateral peace talks in Geneva, Switzerland.

At least two people were killed and 16 wounded by Russian attacks in the past 24 hours, according to a CNN tally of statements from Ukrainian authorities.

Nearly 400 drones and 29 missiles of various types were used said Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

The casualties were reported from various parts of the country, including Kherson, Odesa, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, and the Sumy region.

Photos posted on Telegram by Ukraine’s State Emergency Service show the aftermath of the strikes, depicting damaged buildings, burned vehicles and emergency responders on the scene.

Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said the attacks had targeted energy and civilian infrastructure.

He urged countries to take stronger action, including new sanctions, a ban on Russian participants in global events, a ban on maritime services, and more.

The talks on Tuesday will be the third such round of negotiations seeking to reach a peace deal to end Russia’s war in Ukraine, following previous meetings in the United Arab Emirates’ capital of Abu Dhabi. And next week will mark the four-year anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
