Egypt continues an integrated diplomatic approach within the African Union and regional blocs to support peace, security, and development across the continent, in line with directives to strengthen African partnerships and reinforce Egypt’s role in joint African action.
On Saturday, 7/2/2026, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Emigration, and Egyptian Expatriates issued a statement stating that these efforts come ahead of the African Union summit scheduled for Feb. 14–15.
The ministry highlighted Egypt’s role in African peace efforts, including arrangements for participation in the African Union Support Mission in Somalia and mobilizing $20 million from African Union resources to support stability in the Horn of Africa.
According to the statement, Egypt has expanded its presence within African Union institutions through high-level diplomatic appointments and active involvement in continental and global summits, including the African Union, Africa-Europe, and COMESA meetings.
It also hosted and chaired major African and international forums, reinforcing its position as a platform for dialogue between Africa and global partners.
Additionally, the ministry noted that Egypt secured African backing for its candidate to head UNESCO and obtained senior roles for Egyptian experts within African Union bodies.
