FM, Gaza high representative discuss next phase of Trump peace plan, humanitarian access

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Expatriates Badr Abdelatty discussed the latest developments in the Gaza Strip and efforts to support implementation of the second phase of US President Donald Trump’s peace plan during a phone call with Nikolay Mladenov, the High Representative for Gaza, the foreign ministry said.

Mladenov praised President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi’s leadership and commended Egypt’s central role in supporting regional security and stability at a time of heightened challenges. He also welcomed Egypt’s accession to the Board of Peace, describing the move as a significant addition given Egypt’s political and diplomatic weight and its ability to play an effective role during the current sensitive phase in the region.

Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s full support for the mission of the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza as a temporary transitional body responsible for managing the daily affairs of the enclave’s population, in preparation for the Palestinian National Authority to resume its duties and responsibilities in Gaza.

The foreign minister stressed the need to ensure the unimpeded and sufficient flow of humanitarian and relief aid into Gaza to meet urgent civilian needs, underlining the importance of providing a safe operating environment for humanitarian organizations and guaranteeing the sustained delivery of supplies.

The two sides also discussed next steps and the implementation of remaining commitments under the second phase of Trump’s peace plan, including the deployment of an international stabilization force, the opening of the Rafah crossing in both directions, and an Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip. They said these measures would help consolidate stability and create conditions for a return to normal life in Gaza.

Minister Abdelatty said completing the requirements of the second phase was a key entry point for launching early recovery efforts in Gaza and starting reconstruction under a comprehensive and phased approach based on the actual needs of the population.

The call concluded with agreement to continue close coordination and intensify consultations in the coming period on developments in Gaza, in support of efforts to achieve lasting peace and stability in the enclave and the wider region.
