
Egyptian officials are in engaged in high-level talks with their counterparts in Libya to ascertain the status of missing Egyptian citizens and assess their situation.
These efforts are being undertaken through intensive and direct coordination between the Egyptian Embassy in Tripoli and the Egyptian Consulate General in Benghazi, in full cooperation with the relevant Libyan authorities, and with the participation of relevant departments within Foreign Ministry.
An Egyptian Foreign Ministry statement said this reflects Egypt’s commitment to ensuring the safety of all its citizens abroad.
The statement indicated that these efforts have already yielded tangible results, including the ministry’s success in securing the release of 131 Egyptian citizens from a detention center in Libya on November 27, and their safe return home.
Since the beginning of this year, 1,132 Egyptian citizens have been repatriated from Tripoli and the western region, and more than 1,500 from Benghazi and the eastern region, as part of the Egyptian state’s ongoing efforts.
The statement explained that the Foreign Ministry continues to hold regular and intensive meetings with the families of missing citizens, as part of its commitment to keeping them informed of all relevant developments.
The Assistant Foreign Minister for Consular Affairs, Haddad al-Gohary met on Monday with more than 200 families of missing persons.
The meeting reviewed the efforts being made, the ongoing communications with relevant authorities, and addressed their inquiries.
