President Sisi affirms Egypt’s full support for Libya’s sovereignty, stability, unity, territorial integrity

CAIRO, Dec 8 (MENA) – President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi stressed Monday Egypt’s full support for the sovereignty and stability of Libya and for the unity and integrity of its territory.

During President Sisi’s meeting with Commander-in-Chief of the Libyan National Army Field Marshal Khalifa Hafta in the presence of head of the General Intelligence Service Major General Hassan Rashad, Chief of Staff of the Libyan National Army Lieutenant General Khaled Khalifa and Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Libyan National Army Lieutenant General Saddam Khalifa, the president praised the pivotal role played by the General Command of the Libyan Arm y in this regard and affirmed the need to confront any foreign interference and to work toward the withdrawal of all foreign forces and mercenaries from Libya.

Official Spokesman for the Presidency ambassador Mohamed el-Shenawy said the meeting reaffirmed the depth and special nature of Egyptian-Libyan relations.

For his part, the commander-in-chief of the Libyan national army voiced his appreciation for the pivotal role played by Egypt and President Sisi in restoring security and stability in Libya, as well as for the continued support Egypt has provided to the Libyan people since the beginning of the crisis.

Haftar stressed his keenness on continuing coordination and exchange of views with President Sisi regarding the various developments on both the Libyan and regional fronts.

The spokesman said, “President Sisi reiterated Egypt’s support for all initiatives and efforts aimed at resolving the Libyan crisis, especially those that seek to conduct presidential and parliamentary elections simultaneously.”

Shenawy emphasized Egypt’s commitment to providing all forms of support and assistance to the Libyan army and national institutions within the framework of the historic fraternal relations that unite the two countries and their brotherly peoples.

The spokesperson added that the meeting also addressed regional developments of mutual concern and the challenges facing both countries, especially the situation in Sudan. There was agreement on the importance of intensifying regional and international efforts to reach a peaceful settlement that preserves Sudan’s stability, sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The meeting focused on Sudan’s stability being closely linked to the national security of both Egypt and Libya, he said. (MENA)
