Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aty stressed that the division of Sudan is a “red line” for Egypt, and that the protection of the Egyptian borders is a “sacred matter” that no one can ever violate.
Responding to the possibility of certain “entities” approaching the Egyptian borders given the current situation inside Sudan, Abdel-Aty warned that, “No party, under any circumstances, can be allowed to violate the Egyptian borders or threaten direct Egyptian national security. There will be a strong and clear reaction.”
In televised remarks to Al-Nahar channel on Wednesday evening, he asserted that, “The Egyptian Army is capable of protecting the sacred borders, and they cannot be tampered with by any party whatsoever.”
Abdel-Aty further assured f Egypt’s strong support for Sudan’s national state institutions, especially the military establishment, viewing the National Army as the sole safety valve for preserving the country’s unity.
He noted that Egypt will not permit the existence of parallel entities or armed militias outside the state framework, as that would signify the division of Sudan, which Egypt will never accept.
Sudan and Egypt hold strategic depth for one another, he said, and the relationship between the two countries is an “inseparable, organic relationship,” noting that each country is affected by the other and that its “two peoples are one people in two countries.”
He affirmed Egypt’s complete rejection of the war in Sudan, describing the ongoing conflict as the systematic destruction of the Sudanese people’s resources.
A roadmap for rescue
The Egyptian Foreign Minister pointed out that the Quadripartite Declaration issued on September 12th—with the participation of Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and the United States—is a comprehensive roadmap for rescuing Sudan.
He clarified that the Declaration focuses on three points: opening humanitarian corridors, ensuring the flow of medical and food aid and facilitating the entry of international relief teams through visa and residency facilities.
Military solution ruled out
He stressed that a military solution in Sudan is absolutely impossible and that all parties must recognize this, asserting that the only way to end the conflict is a comprehensive political solution that excludes no one.
The Egyptian Foreign Minister called for an immediate halt to the flow of weapons into Sudan via neighboring countries, explaining that this external interference is the very root of Sudan’s tragedy.
He stated that Egypt is relying on US efforts to impose a truce in Sudan as soon as possible, adding that the efforts made by US President Donald Trump in Gaza could similarly be replicated in Sudan.
