Four ministers participate in AI conf. at Cairo University

Four ministers participated in a session on the future of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Egypt, held at Cairo University as part of an international AI conference. The session aims to enhance the national approach to AI in infrastructure, education, healthcare, and employment.

During the talks, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health Khaled Abdel Ghaffar said that AI is now central to improving the quality of life and must be treated as essential infrastructure.

He warned of major economic losses if global workers fail to adapt and stressed that AI should enhance human roles.

Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat pointed to major investments in digital infrastructure and said Egypt now ranks among the fastest internet providers in Africa.

He outlined the country’s updated AI strategy, which includes open data policies, privacy safeguards, and support for 250 AI startups over the next five years.

Higher Education Minister Ayman Ashour affirmed that AI must be embedded across all academic disciplines.

He highlighted new university guidelines for ethical use and training programs that combine innovation with AI to prepare students for future industries.

Labor Minister Mohamed Gobran said the labor market is undergoing rapid change, with many traditional jobs disappearing. A national committee is now working to define future skill needs, while the ministry expands vocational training programs and partnerships to prepare youth for AI-related careers.

Finally, the session called for coordinated national action to integrate AI across sectors while ensuring the workforce is equipped to meet emerging demands.
